TVET 102 - Quality Management

Six Sigma is a business management strategy originally developed by Motorola, USA in 1986. It seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects (errors) and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes. It uses a set of quality management methods, including statistical methods, and creates a special infrastructure of people within the organization.

Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a strategic performance management tool - a semi-standard structured report, supported by proven design methods and automation tools, which can be used by managers to keep track of the execution of activities by the staff within their control and to monitor the consequences arising from these actions.

Quality System can be considered to have four main components: quality planning, quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement. It is focused not only on product/service quality, but also the means to achieve it. It is therefore uses quality assurance and control of processes as well as products to achieve more consistent quality.

Philippine Quality Award (PQA) is the highest level of national recognition for exemplary organizational performance. It aims to stimulate local companies and organizations to improve quality and productivity for the pride of recognition while obtaining a competitive edge and providing example to others. Also, it promotes sharing of information and benchmarking of best practices and results among organizations pursuing quality improvement.

All these four topics are about business and company management and improvement. It is also about quality and strategy management of a company. But the last one is about awards, the PQA. Perhaps, it’s still about quality management.

Ethics Final Assignment

1. Being an IT student what are some failures and errors you have encountered in a computer system? State the failure and discuss how you solve it.

Not functioning mouse and keyboard, it was the first problem I ever encounter. It was on my high school days, so I asked my teacher how to figure it out. Then he just instructed me to shut down the computer then unplug the mouse and keyboard then plug it again then turn on the computer. Since then every time I encounter that kind of problem, I always did what my high school instructor told me.
No display on screen, since 4th year high school I have learned a bit on PC assembly. So when I encounter this problem, all I have to do is to clean the video card and the memory by just reinstalling them. Or I will reinstall all the hardware parts inside the system unit, unplug and plug them again and reconnecting the power supply and all the ide or sata cable for sure.
I also encounter an error that a video file I want to play will not play. So what I did is, I downloaded a video codec then install it and everything is fine.
Every now and then I encounter an error, I search an answer in google but if couldn’t find solution, I’ll ask anyone maybe he/she could help me.

2. What are possible risk if people will be too much dependent to computer? Give example that people are dependent to computer.

The possible risk if people will be too much dependent on computer is education. Especially nowadays, a lot of students are too dependent on computer. If they’re given an assignment they just copy and paste an article on the internet without even reading it. So education is one the possible risk perhaps Internet is a huge source of knowledge.
Another thing also is addiction of computer games.  I have seen a lot of young student nowadays that failed their grade because of cutting classes just for playing computer and online games.
Health is also the possible risk. Your eyes will be in danger if you have spent too much time on computer every day and it’s not also a good exercise. And some people have lack of sleep because sometime they spent whole night playing, chatting or doing anything on their computer.
But for me, the biggest risk on too much dependent on computer is education. But still, it depends on how you manage it.
